The new Frontrunner is now functional and running in the Wasatch Front. It is the commuter train that runs from Ogden to Salt Lake City and well needed. Seth loves trains and Utah Transportation had a few days where everyone who wanted to could ride for free. Seth really had a hard time understanding that he was on the train, but had fun with LaDawn and the other kids none the less.

Another birthday in the family. The benefit of having seven of us in our immediate family is seven birthdays a year. Seth turned two on the 25th of April. He brings a ton of fun to our family. Some of his interests are trains (”choo-choo”), horses, and books.

Seth got a train set for his birthday and loves it. It’s not every year you turn two.

The kids have played soccer for a few years now. Tori is the only one who currently does not play but is involved with other activities. Ethan plays and most of the time appears to be having fun. He periodically gets to play the position of goalie. Even though he got scored on a few times, I try not to become to competitive as a parent (it would be cool to me to see his team smash another team). Everyone is a winner… right?

Akasha is pretty good at soccer. She seems to be able to score at least once a game. She seems to prefer to play defense though. On the day this photo was taken it was very windy.

Rylee is the soccer player that seems to like to play for the social aspect, which is weird because she is not very social at soccer. She tends to stay shy of the ball even though she does kick it a few times every game. It’s really fun to see her out on the field. We try to support and encourage whatever sport/activity she chooses to do.

Tori turned nine on the 17th of April. As each day passes she becomes more unique and fun. Tori is an excellent reader. She was accepted into the “Spectrum” program in the Davis County School District. This program is for advanced students and after notification of eligibility, a rigorous test is administered to qualify. Both Tori and Akasha were eligible. They both decided to stay at Layton Elementary where their friends are at. One of Tori’s gifts was a book that Grandma Brickey (my mother) loved when she was a child, Black Beauty.

Tori also received a gift from Grandma Peggy (Amanda’s mother) that came a few days later in the mail that she absolutely adored. Overall Tori had a great birthday.

It’s not often we make it down to my hometown of St. George, but on April 5th my Grandma passed away and gave us a reason to take a trip and enjoy a few days. The funeral was good. Grandma Marjorie Brickey Perry was 85, lived a wonderful life and was ready to pass into the next phase of our existence. In my opinion it was not a sad funeral but a funeral to celebrate her life. While down in St. George we took advantage of nice weather and time away from work and visited historical Sand Hollow swim center.

Seth is getting more accustomed to water and being in the swimming pool. After he got used to it he went down the frog slide and would say “again,” then went down it for about a half hour straight.

Ethan, Rylee, Tori, and Akasha would habitually go on the lily pads where balancing and technique is necessary and then proceed to the slide, and then back through the process again. We all had a lot of fun.

Time flies. Seth is almost two and is getting into mad trouble. He likes to empty out drawers, write on walls, get into the snacks and pull all the toilet paper off the roll. He makes like fun! It’s also great to see him get excited about life. This Easter season there were a few Easter egg hunts. One of them happened right in our house with LaDawn hiding the eggs just where Seth could get them. Once found, he liked to put them into his little push car/toy.

Of course the object of finding the eggs is to get the prize inside. If the prize is good enough, the positive reinforcement takes place and the desire for more happens. Especially if that reinforcement is delicious chocolate which Seth has grown a taste for.
